LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University softball team landed five players on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) all-conference teams, which were released by the league on Wednesday.
Sammi Starr (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area),
Erin DelPierre (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and
Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) were selected to the Eastern Division's First Team while
Nicolette Ray (Abington, Pa./Abington) and
Kayleigh Lenner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) were named to the Second Team.
It is the second straight season Starr landed a spot on the All-PSAC team and it is also DelPierre's second time receiving an All-PSAC selection. Ray, Lenner and Sowers are all making the list for the first time after putting up solid numbers this season.
Starr led the PSAC in doubles this year with 18 and the shortstop leads the team with 39 runs scored. Starr is hitting .362 with 28 runs batted in, four home runs and a total of 55 hits. On the field, Starr leads the squad with 70 assists.
DelPierre makes an appearance on the all-conference list after hitting for a .383 average and collecting 54 hits this season. On the basepaths, the senior is a perfect 10-for-10 on stolen base attempts and she has scored 33 times. DelPierre has 11 doubles to go along with two homers and 18 RBI this season.
Ray lands a spot on the All-PSAC team after being one of the top hitters in the 18-team league as she is among conference leaders in several major offensive categories. The first baseman's 11 home runs are the second most in the PSAC, and she ranks sixth in batting average (.428), fourth in hits (65) and is tied for fourth in RBI (43) and fourth in doubles (14).
Sowers earns a spot on the First Team as a pitcher that led the league in strikeouts with 177 during her first year with the Huskies. The freshman pitcher's 18 wins are the second most in the conference and her 173.1 innings in the circle also rank second in the league. The right-handed hurler has more strikeouts than hits allowed (160 H) this season and has only given up 69 earned runs.
Lenner joins the all-conference team as one of the top hitters in the conference as her 60 total hits rank seventh in the league. The sophomore is hitting .359 and is second on the team in runs scored with 36. She has eight doubles this season to go along with one triple, one homer and 16 RBI this year.
The five Huskies helped Bloomsburg secure an NCAA Tournament berth after accumulating an overall record of 28-18 and conference record of 10-6 this season. Bloomsburg will take on Shippensburg in its first game of the Atlantic Regional tomorrow. The game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM on Thursday at Shippensburg's Robb Field.
