BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's swimming team has selected its captains for the upcoming 2020-21 season. Leading the Huskies will be senior Noah Cancro (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) and juniors Pat Agnew (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), Nick Madey, and Matt Marvin (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia).

"With the uncertainty of the season and the constant strain of COVID-related changes, we delayed naming captains until we were convinced we were having a season," said head coach Stu Marvin. "We are a full month into training and are very optimistic now that the PSAC Championships are scheduled in April."

Cancro enters his senior season with the Huskies as a returning captain and one of the team's best all-around contributors. Cancro was part of the NCAA Championship team last season and currently owns eight BU all-time top ten times. As a student, he has been on the Dean's List every year and has been named both a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and Bloomsburg University Scholar-Athlete a total of six times. "Noah is an outstanding young man and a huge part of our success here at Bloomsburg," said Marvin. "His list of accomplishments continues to grow, and he showed his commitment to the team by switching out of his regular events to help last season. He is a tremendous role model for his teammates."

Agnew steps into his junior year as one of the dominant sprinters on the team. He was part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that won the PSAC championship and qualified for the NCAA Championships last season. Agnew is an NCAA All American, a two-time PSAC champion, and has grabbed six All-Conference awards. He also excels in the classroom with two Dean's List efforts and two PSAC and BU Scholar-Athlete awards. "Pat has a larger than life personality and has a huge positive influence on the team," explained Marvin. "He is poised to make a big jump in his career now that he has had a taste of the NCAA Championships."

Madey enters his junior year excelling in the breaststroke events, along with the 200-yard and the 400-yard IM. He has been a member of two PSAC Championship teams, gaining one A Final and five B Finals in his first two seasons. Madey's effort in the 200-yard breaststroke last year put him on the BU all-time top ten list for the first time in his career. The team honored him with the annual Captain's Award in his freshman year for his hard work and dedication. "Nick is a fine young man and is very well-grounded," added Marvin. "He is continually offering suggestions and ideas to help the team come together and become a better group."

Finally, Marvin enters his junior season after being involved in the sport for just four years. As a walk-on, he made the PSAC Championship Team as a freshman with strong performances in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events. Marvin has posted four PSAC qualifying times in his first two seasons and won the 200-yard breaststroke at the Pidgeon Invitational in 2019. As a student, he has been named to the Dean's List twice and is a two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and a two-time BU Scholar-Athlete. "Matt has been an inspiration to the team primarily because he has only been swimming competitively for four years," commented Marvin. "His improvement has been impressive, and he is very passionate about the team's success as well as his own."

The Huskies' shortened season will feature only one "in-person" meet before the PSAC Championships when they travel to the Keystone Aquatic Center in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to compete in the PSAC Invitational on February 27. They will fill the void of no dual meets with a series of virtual meets as part of the PSAC Virtual Series.
