Freeland was a standout for the Huskies on the softball field. A two-time All-American catcher, she hit .265 for her career with 47 RBI. As a senior, she hit .307 with 18 RBI and 17 runs scored and earned the Eleanor Wray Award as the outstanding female senior athlete. Considered one of the best catchers ever to play for the Huskies, Freeland posted a career field percentage of .979, committing just 13 errors. In her four years with the team, she helped the Huskies to four PSAC titles, a record of 148-28 and a third-place finish at the NCAA national championships in 1986. Freeland was also a standout in the classroom and twice earned CoSIDA/GTE Academic All-American honors. Following graduation, Freeland went to medical school and graduated in the top 10 in her class. She is now a doctor in the Bloomsburg area.
