Woods was a two-time Associated Press All-American as a defensive back with the football team, earning second team honors in 1984 and third team status in 1985. He also was selected to the Kodak All-American football team in 1985 by the American Football Coaches Association. Woods was also a three-time PSAC first team selection and holds the school record for interceptions for both a season and career with 10 and 26, respectively. A key member of the special teams for the Huskies, he also holds the team single-game record for highest kick return average (36.5), which he achieved during the team's first NCAA Division II playoff appearance against North Alabama.

In his four seasons, Bloomsburg registered a combined record of 24-18-1, including a 12-1 campaign in 1985. Woods was a member of the Huskies' 1985 PSAC championship squad which defeated Indiana, Pa., 31-9 and eventually reached the national semifinals. The Huskies also reached the 1984 title game where they lost to California, Pa., 21-14.

As a member of the Bloomsburg track team, Woods won the 1985 PSAC 100-meter race and finished third in the 200-meter race. In 1984, Woods was third in the 100-meter race and second in the 200-meter race at the PSAC championships.
