Budweg was a standout on the Bloomsburg baseball team earning first team PSAC All-Conference honors in 1977 and 1978 and second team Mid-Atlantic region honors in 1976. In 1978, he ranked fourth in the NCAA with 11.7 strikeouts per nine innings, while his 0.66 ERA, a school record, was second nationally. Budweg holds 11 school records and was the first player in Bloomsburg history to throw a no-hitter with a 1-0 win over Shippensburg, May 1, 1977. His career record at Bloomsburg was 8-8, a strong showing considering Bloomsburg finished above .500 just once in his four years. Budweg also posted impressive career marks of a 2.52 ERA and 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings. He was an eighth-round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals and later signed with the New York Yankees.
