Mike Petersen was a standout tennis player for the Huskies. A native of New Zealand, Petersen won 12 PSAC titles in his career, just the third person to earn that accomplishment, capturing both the PSAC singles and doubles titles and the overall team title each of his four years. He helped lead the team to an overall mark of 61-23 and three top 10 NCAA finishes.
He also competed as part of the men's team in the NCAA championships in singles and/or doubles his first three years and on an individual basis three of his four years. In 1992 his two victories at the NCAA championships earned him All-American honors. In 1991 he was named the Bloomsburg University Underclassmen Athlete of the Year and was both a Bloomsburg University and PSAC Scholar-Athlete.
His best season as an individual player came in 1990 when he posted a record of 30-11 and was 23-5 in doubles play. In his career he posted a mark of 91-47 as a singles competitor and was 43-14 in doubles play.
Since graduation Petersen went on to complete his teaching certification in Health and Physical Education and his Master's degree in Education. Petersen resides in suburban Philadelphia with his wife, Carol, and his son, Luke. He is a teacher in the Downingtown Area School District where he continues to promote his love of sports to his students.
