Skiptunas was a multi-sport standout for the Huskies. His career on the football field saw him earning four varsity letters. A two-time AP All-State Teachers Conference linebacker and center, he helped the Huskies to a record of 24 - 7-1 with one championship and one shared conference title in that time of service. He was also chosen, by teammates, Captain of the Championship Team in his senior year. He played three years of basketball and spent one season on the track team. Following graduation, "Skip" was named Head Football Coach at West Islip High School on Long Island, NY from 1962 to 1969. He turned the once floundering program into league champions in 1967. Newsday, the Long Island Press, the Suffolk Sun, and the Suffolk County Football Coaches Association all named Skiptunas Coach of the Year during that season. He earned his doctorate, cum laude, at SUNY Buffalo and spent the last 20 years of his career as a Superintendent of Schools in NY State and Vermont.
