Hostetter was the first men's tennis standout at Bloomsburg. He compiled a mark of 81-18 playing at number one singles each of his four years. His winning percentage of 82 percent remains the best mark in school history 25 years later. Hostetter also helped the Huskies to a second place finish at the ECAC championships as a sophomore and senior and first place as a junior. He was named the winner of the Robert B. Redman Award as the top Senior Athlete in 1976 and graduated summa cum laude. Following graduation he won the Maryland State Clay Championship singles title in 1977 and was named as one of the top tennis players in Lancaster County in the 20th century by the Lancaster Area newspapers.
