Browning was a standout on the football field for the Huskies. Browning, who played defense as a freshman, finished his career as the school's all-time leader in career yards with 1,607 (now ninth) on just 184 carries for an average of 8.7 yards a carry. He also scored 10 rushing touchdowns. As a receiver, Browning caught 26 passes for 643 yards, an average of 24.7 yards per catch, with eight scores. He led the Huskies in scoring in both 1953 and 1954 and finished 31st in the country in 1953 in rushing yards. Browning earned All-Pennsylvania State Teachers Athletic Conference honors in 1953 (1st team); '54 (2nd team); and '54 (honorable mention).
