Vanessa Sterner was a four-year standout for the Huskies in softball from 1998 to 2001. During that stretch, the Huskies captured a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships and four-straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

During her time in the maroon and gold, Sterner led the Huskies to a four-year record of 174-38-1 and an NCAA third and fourth-place finish to go with the PSAC Championship.

Sterner was a four-time All-PSAC East First Team selection at third base and was a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American with first team honors in 2001 and a second team selection in 2000. She was named to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional All-Tournament Team following the 2000 and the 2001 tournaments.

The third baseman still holds the Bloomsburg single season record for RBI (68) and is tied for third in the PSAC. Her 18 homeruns during the 2000 season are the second-most in a single season for Bloomsburg and tied for sixth in the PSAC. Sterner is still seventh all-time in hits with 243 and second in career home runs with 44. She is fifth in runs batted in (151) and third in runs scored with 180. Her 44 career doubles in still tied for seventh all time.
